Монография представляет исследование и комментированный перевод персидского сочинения XVI — XVII вв. Sayast — na sayast («Что можно, а что нельзя»), которое содержит изложение преданий, обычаев, религиозных и этических предписаний и запретов, бытовавших в зороастрийских общинах Ирана и Индии в эпоху позднего зороастризма во враждебном для него мусульманском окружении.
Ученые служители веры (хербеды) писали популярные ривайаты для просвещения мирян. Некоторым произведениям они давали названия стоглавов (Sad dar) по числу помещенных сюжетов. Sayast — na sayast получил параллельное название Saddar Bundahes («Бундахишн из ста глав», или «Стоглав Бундахишн»). Другое близкое ему по содержанию сочинение было названо «Прозаическим Стоглавом» или «Стоглавом в прозе» (Saddar Nasr), но оба произведения посвящены характеристике разных категорий дозволенного и запретного.
The monograph presents the research and the commented Russian translation of the 16th — 17th-century New-Persian composition entitled Sayast na sayast ("%Ьа1 is the Proper and the Improper" ) which relates traditions, customs, religious and ethical prescriptions and prohibitions, being widespread among Zoroastrian communities of Iran and India during epoch of the late Zoroastrianism, existed in the hostile Moslem encirclement.
А publication of the valuable Zoroastrian work includes an analytical Introduction, the commented Russian translation of the Persian text of the "Sayastna sayast", the Bibliography of primary and secondary sources, and three Appendixes: The first one represents Analogical text excerpts &om other sources; the second one consists of the Glossary of proper names and Zoroastrian terminology; the third one — Facsimile of the Original Persian text of the work from the Zoroastrian manuscript С 1869, now in the collection of the Institute of Oriental manuscripts, St. Petersburg.
